Organic Farming is nothing but «a rural practice of agriculture that involves zero applications of modern chemical fertilizers or pesticides for the fertile growth of the flora in a well sustained environment.»
Objectives of an Organic Farming are:
- To avoid soil erosion
- To maintain soil fertility
- To recycle wastes
- To maintain a healthy environment
- To achieve zero carbon emission
- To use Bio-degradable fertilizers
- To produce high quality products
- To sustain the Bio-diversity within the system
Organic Farming is a slow and steady process when in comparison to some modern techniques as it takes time for the farmer to reap for what he has sown. Comparing the profits, Organic farmers get more than the others as the quality of the product from their farms are rated higher in the market but challenges are to be faced to be successful in organic farming. Pests control and providing essential nutrients for the plants without using modern fertilizers are the matter of concern for them. Alternatively there are methods to overcome their concerns.
- Use of Eco-friendly pesticides and fertilizers
- Organic Farmers need to make sure that they use renewable resources in spite of going in for the resources that are a relic, so they can avoid being responsible for the climatic change which is main criteria in recent times.
- Bio-fuels can be used in the generating energy for irrigation purpose.
An Organic Farmer needs to keep on changing the strategies in farming like crop rotation, covering crops, use of various Bio-pesticide and fertilizers to make the soil fertile. Pest is considered as the most important factor for a farmer’s loss in the field. To prevent the hectic job of controlling pests in the field, an Organic Farmer needs to use Bio-pesticide like Neem Oil. Organic researches to suggest that Neem Oil has the effective ability to repel pests thereby protecting plants from degradation.
Though Development of Technology is drastic in recent times it doesn’t suite more for the field of agriculture as it is a consumer based one and people expect quality in it. Thus Organic Farming is the near future practice that every single farmer will adopt for surviving during the recessions. A sustainable development is achieved by this type of farming.
Sustainable Development –»Meeting the needs of the people and also ensuring the future expectations without disturbing the present»
